How To Use Extra Cards For Sets Of Sports Memorabilia

In these days of high tech equipment and computers, it is odd to know that the collecting of football cards and sports cards still goes on with abandon. In fact, the collectors of today are far more likely to become fanatical about the hobby because they can now find anything they want online. We all probably had a brother or cousin who absolutely could not resist collecting these seemingly worthless photos of sportsmen from all disciplines. Stories of how an elusive piece was found languishing at the local yard sale abound and we all know someone who boasts of how much they would pay to get their hands on such a prize. Of course, these people do not realize that many of us cannot see the beauty of it but still they boast!

There are different categories that people look out for more than others. For example, many people choose their favorite team and then only collect rookie photos for that team over years to come. They could do this every year of course if the team players change, and sometimes they get lucky by having one of a budding star in the team. These are sold for inordinate amounts of money through dealers and fairs so storing them in the right way is important.

Because these photos are given out free with some products, the world tends to throw them out without a second thought. However, it is this that makes them valuable if there are not many in existence. Many a person has a tale of how their parents threw out what they considered to be rubbish only to find later that they had thrown away a fortune by mistake.

Avid collectors will certainly know what they are looking for when they go to these fairs, but will sometimes buy up multiples of one particular photo so that they can barter in future. Those in pristine condition will certainly attract better prices that those that look a little dog eared so do take care to look after them very well in future.

Apart from the value of these photos, the action of trying to find them often sets up a web of like minded individuals who become the eyes and ears for everyone in specific searches. Friendships are developed and this is a great way to have a whole host of people on the look out for some rare pieces. Although most of this is done online these days, enthusiasts often meet up at the fairs etc and cement their friendships face to face.

For people who prefer to collect in a more civilized manner, there are many outlets in major cities which keep many thousands of photos in stock of players from many different disciplines. Indeed, these places are virtual treasure troves for the avid collector and will certainly be places to find some gems. These shops also may offer the facility to swap certain photos, or multiples of photos, for one particularly expensive piece which the collector may not be able to buy otherwise.

Creative Wedding Favors Should Represent The Bride And Groom

If you are planning a wedding, you probably already know the cost can get out of control. From food to decorations, everything is more expensive than you think it is going to be. If you are looking for money saving tricks but still want fun favors, look for ways to incorporate your style and interests into favors that guests will love. Take a moment to think about your shared interests and passions. Is there something the two of you love to do together, or did you meet an interesting way that can be incorporated into the wedding? For instance, if the two of you met at a game, consider incorporating sports cards into the favors or if both of you enjoy watching the big game on Sundays, football cards might make great wedding favors.

Other ways to bring your favorite team to the wedding is with colors and logos. If you prefer traditional favors would work better, but you want to pay homage to your favorite teams, consider things like candles, photo frames, or candy in the colors of your team. You can add a logo if spend a bit more.

If athletics are not what you love, there are plenty of other options. Are you and your honey art lovers? Frame a wallet size print of your favorite piece of art to share with guests. It gives them something that will later remind them of your wedding day. In addition to favors, you can incorporate the print into other parts of the wedding. If you are not art lovers but you like the idea of sharing a picture, give guests a photo of a special place or vacation destination.

Finally, a great solution for a favor is something everyone can enjoy but that will not last forever is food. Even though guests will not have something a few years down the road that reminds them of your wedding day, chances are they will enjoy eating a food favor more than displaying a trinket from the big day. If you choose food items, select something unique and personal. Many couples just toss a few candied almonds into a bag and call it a day. If you are looking for something more creative, there are still plenty of food options.

Consider favorite foods you and your significant other enjoy sharing. Was your first date at a Mexican restaurant then consider making salsa and canning it for the guests to enjoy later. Do you exchange handmade chocolates every Valentine’s Day? Share these gourmet goodies with the wedding guests. If there is a special item you bake or cook that you both enjoy, box it up and share with others. There are small boxes and plastic bags available at craft stores and they make packaging and sharing easy. If guests leave a wedding with a special treat, they will be glad they came!

Where To Go If You Are A Big Collector Searching For New Items Or Wishing To Sell Some

There are many people in America and around the world that are avid collectors of different items. The things that they collect may vary from fine art by famous artists to football cards or sports cards. The people that are true collectors are really interested in either selling pieces that they already have or looking for one to buy to add to their collection. The method this is accomplished is different for everyone and the methods are different too. This article will explore the different methods collectors purchase and sell their particular items.

With the internet becoming so widely used in the past decade, collecting has really become a much easier and more accessible thing to people all over the world. For some collectors, all they have to do is search the item they want to purchase and most likely it will turn up in one form or another online. There is a big category of collectibles for sale listed on the auction site known as Ebay. This has proven to be a wonderful method for collectors of smaller, less costly things. There have been however, some pricey collections being sold on Ebay also so anything really goes.

There are other internet sites that do the similar kind of thing as Ebay and may be located with some simple searching on your PC. The wonderful thing for people trying to sell their collectibles on an internet auction site is that it often becomes a bidding war which can raise the amount that you will receive for your collectible. Bidding wars usually raise the price on the more unusual and rare finds so if you have something that is quite rare, you may receive a great deal more by posting through an online auction website that encourages this type of competition.

Another way of purchasing or selling collectibles is in a specific collector club. A lot of specific forms of collectibles have a club around it. For example, if you are a huge baseball card collector, then you may join a special club of other people that like purchasing and selling the same items as you. Many times the club publish ads for items that members want to sell and it will be distributed to the other members who are interested in the same things. To find a collector club in your area they can be found on different website searches and sites.

Another way to sell or purchase items is through an auction house or by an estate sale. If you have an entire collection you wish to sell or several pieces of fine art or antique furniture for example, this could be a good way to do it. This is good when you need to sell multiple items as well. One famous auction house is Sotheby’s that deals in high end collectibles. You may also go to an estate sale. Both of these requires a cost to the auction or estate putting on the sale and these fees are usually negotiable.

How To Identify The Onset Of Dementia

Ben had always been able to read his dad pretty well however recently he was having difficulty knowing what he was thinking. Much of the time his father appeared to be managing his life with no particular problems but sometimes he was distant and forgetful leaving Ben to wonder what was going on. The only time his father would seem to get excited was when they were talking about past experiences and he would even get animated telling a familiar story he recollected but anytime he was asked a question about something of current interest he would seem to draw a blank. This was confirmed the day Ben took him to a sports cards shop and his father displayed quite an interest in many old football cards that were on display there. In addition to remembering the league player highlights he could also recall where he was and what he was doing the year these events happened. This was just the opposite of what had happened when Ben tried to have with him about the big championship game they had both watched together the weekend before.

Ben was correct in his assumption that his dad was showing beginning signs of dementia and he found in talking with his personal physician that he had missed the early warning signs until now. The earlier this process of deterioration is discovered the better it can be managed but it is certainly not a disease that can be cured. The diagnosis of dementia can only be made by a doctor after screening tests are given usually consisting of an MRI, blood tests and a memory test where the patient is asked a series of questions including one where he is given three words to remember and then asked in several minutes what they were. Frequently folks with dementia do not have the capacity to recall a single word in just a few minutes. The most common early warning signs of dementia are:

1. An inability to find the right word in conversations, resulting in halted speech and incomplete thoughts is something we all deal with from time to time. In people with early and moderate dementia, this becomes the customary way they can communicate and so it results in a very difficult conversation on both sides. This can be very frustrating to the person with the disease and the person who is trying to interpret what this person is trying to say.

2. A growing difficulty on the part of the person to understand numbers and financial concepts. Often this is first obvious when someone has tremendous difficulty balancing his or her checkbook.

3. A tendency to get confused or lost in familiar places is also a key indicator of dementia. This situation sadly, is hazardous not just to anyone suffering with the dementia but also to others on the road if the person is still driving. It is sometimes helpful to enlist the aid of the doctor to advise his patient that it would be a wise move for everyone if he would decide to give up his driving rights.

Ten Ideas For Those Considering Operating A Small Business

From the time Ken began his career in retail sales he dreamed of one day being a small business owner. His hope was to at some point in time own and operate his very own shop. His plan was to use his sales and marketing degree and join it with his love of athletics and his nostalgia for his childhood hobby of collecting memorabilia. His shop would carry a variety of sports cards, such as football cards as well as baseball and basketball. He felt this would be a great basis for his business but knew that in order to be a viable, money making business he would have to market a variety of merchandise. Owning and operating a profitable collectibles shop takes knowledge not only of products but of marketable merchandise as well. What should an owner carry and what quantity is necessary? Additionally, what price points are acceptable for the customer base in a particular area and will an owner broaden the customer base by maintaining a healthy internet business? The following are some of the most helpful suggestions for small business owners as they seek to set up shop.

• Find the right mix between being an exclusive niche business and a run of the mill mass merchandiser.

• Determine if the business will have solely a local focus or if it will be more widespread. Many businesses benefit from involvement in distant markets or through shipping services.

• Know the products and product lines like the back of your hand.

• Keep price points accessible yet profitable.

• Use effective marketing strategies to promote the new business.

• Know before you begin that long and often unpredictable hours will be required.

• Consider any staffing needs you may have and how you will address them.

• Be familiar with insurance requirements as well as all legal issues prior to opening.

• Painstakingly identify what types of technology are available to automate and simplify the experience of customers.

• Invest in retail consulting services to help you determine the most effective location for your business.

Being a small business owner requires the use of a number of skills. For the small business owner who is able to handle the demands involved in operations and who is able to present customers with the products they are looking for at the price they can afford, there will always be money to be made. Knowing what products work in your environment is perhaps the biggest key to making a business a success. Creating a store with products that are too niche will certainly keep profits low. Striking the right balance between offering unique and hard to obtain items, while being accessible to a large majority is indeed a trick but something that a successful small businessman or businesswoman will look forward to tackling. By keeping in mind the preceding ten tips, a small business owner can be well on the way to finding profit in the retail realm. For those like Ken, who have a dream that they hope will one day become a reality, proactively investing time and energy into researching business start up information will prove to be a truly profitable use of resources.

The Things Kids Collect

Basketball cards, football cards, wrestling cards, and all manner of sports cards have been around since the middle of the 20th century. The start of the 90’s was a great period in basketball and other sports, with athletes like Michael Jordan, Scotty Pippen and Shaquille O’Neill doing amazing things on the basketball court. The fad of collecting basketball cards was never higher at this time, with a number of successful companies vying to be the most valuable.

It was always young kids, of course, who would decide these cards were valuable. One of the simplest ways to tell which card was worth the most was by how popular the athlete on the front was. A Michael Jordan card would be more valuable than a Luc Longley, for instance. But also available were special cards, which included gimmicks like holograms and shiny paper to be worth more, and make the image more alluring.

The companies that made these cards saw a great deal of money in this time. Fleer cards were usually considered to be of high quality, while Topps cards could at this time never seem to be quite as stylish as the others. The most popular, however, were those from the Upper Deck style. With each card presented in smooth, crisp detail and a tiny hologram declaring it to be official Upper Deck material on the back, these cards were the one most looked for by kids in the schoolyard.

The question is often asked: Why do kids place so much value on these little pieces of card? At first, it seems like a reasonable question. The material used by the manufacturers cannot possibly be worth anywhere near what the producer has paid to create them, or what any of the objects are worth. It’s only the fact that many different people agree on a card being valuable or not valuable that makes any value. As funny as it sounds, the perception of something being the case makes it real. When one person says a piece of cardboard is worth a heap, he’s delusional. But if many people say it, the people who disagree are missing out.

Now, this all seems to be a weird thing to think of as true, yet consider this: Why is their value to money? Do the materials of money have any actual value? Of course not, greenbacks are worth something simply because everyone agrees that they are valuable. So as strange as we think the kids getting the basketball cards are, we would consider someone who didn’t care about money would be crazy, too.

Basketball cards have in these times become highly unfashionable among youngsters. While there was a short craze for Pokemon, the fads of today tend to be computerized, with many kids using mobile phones instead of cards, or pogs or yo-yos. It’s easy for us to look at them and think of how silly they are, but were we really any better? Now here’s a scary thought: When these kids are our age, what will their kids be playing with?

A Short History How Trading Cards Started

To distinguish it from the common playing card used in gambling and show business, cards associated with games are called trading or, many times, collectible cards. Baseball cards are the most widely-known, although there are also football cards, issued when the sport grew to be very prevalent, and as a group sports cards, for other sports games. Non-sports cards are about cartoons, television, movies or comics. Logically, contemporary cards about cartoon characters are more well-liked among kids than those of sports, due to the promotion of anime and similar style cartoons.

Baseball cards were originally issued publicly in its tentative forms between 1902 and 1935 that, although of cardboard, were of different sizes and dimensions. It was not uniform like those at present, and usually had misprinted or erroneous contents due to printing shortcomings. The cards were actually simply advertising ploys for tobacco items, chewing gum and other foodstuffs sold during baseball games, much like the tokens in cereal boxes nowadays. Because the cards contained information regarding the players, they later became more desirable than the products they suppported.

Inasmuch as the cards could not be picked inside the packing, those who find themselves having too many cards of one player traded them with those on others. Trading cards thus became the practice and the label. After 1936, the cards were manufactured in standard sizes and specifications to facilitate exchange, and were packaged and sold independently of other items. Baseball cards from then came into their own time as products, and not simply marketing items.

The baseball card as known today was conceptualized in 1952 by Sy Berger, who was an employee of the Topps Corporation. Topps was at the time a new participant into the baseball card field, having first produced cards that presented Hopalong Cassidy, a well-known Western television character played by William Boyd. Sy Berger designed the card that has the name of the player, his photograph, signature, logo and team name on the front and his biography as well as some personal and game statistics at the back. The contemporary baseball cards still use the identical over-all design which has turned into a classic.

Trading cards attained their heyday in the earlier 1990s, but went on a long downslide ever since, along with baseball which is slowly sinking in basketball noise. From around 10,000 US shops dealing in trading cards, at present there are much less than 2,000 and diminishing. Trading cards have gone down so much in worth that many cards sell nowadays as it did 20 years ago in adjusted prices. They have not become collector items but rather cards to get rid of quickly, collecting dust rather than price in the basements.

A lot of owners and hopefuls blame this unpredicted phenomenon on eBay and similar selling sites. Suddenly, reserved cards are considered rare in an area became readily and cheaply available on the Internet, so the stashed ones lost value quickly. Not only for baseball cards but also for all trading or sports cards. It appears sports memorabilia is losing ground to modern pecuniary considerations, and more is the pity.

If It Ain’t Huge, It Ain’t Texas: Dallas Stadium Goes All Out

Football is a sport that has created billions of dollars in secondary revenue. Beyond ticket sales and even television broadcasting rights, the business of football has flooded certain markets with money. The sport has had a positive fiscal influence on everything from sports cards and football cards, to rubber fingers, tailgate accessories, beer sales, auto sales and the post halftime careers of overexposed celebrities. Footballs influence is mammoth in terms of the sheer amount of money spent and generated directly and indirectly. Consider the construction of just one stadium at the cost of 1.3 billion, that’s billion with a b. The new Dallas Cowboy Stadium is the worlds most expensive stadium to date and has spread the wealth of design and construction fees across the world.

Think about one aspect of the stadium; the display screen. All stadiums have display screens so the fans can feel right at home and watch the game the way they usually do at home, just in left comfortable seats. In the new stadium used by the Dallas Cowboys the high definition video display is the largest in the world. How large is it? Let’s begin with a little perspective; realtors in the United States refer to anything over 8,000 square feet to be a mansion. At 11,520 square feet the mammoth screen is larger then most homes. It stretches nearly 60 yards filling up the space between the twenty yard lines. The screen consists of 10,584,064 LED lights making for crystal clear resolution. It is the biggest High-definition display in the world. It has four displays; two facing the end zones and the other two pointed to the sidelines. It is 60 tons of deadweight and is center hung 90 feet above the playing field in the Cowboy Stadium. The smaller displays are still a huge 29 feet high and 51 feet wide. As well as the giant center hung screens there are nearly 3,000 smaller displays placed throughout the stadium. Fans can go sit anywhere in the stadium and get a great view of the game without ever having to look down at the field and watch real people playing football. The cost for this display is a mere 40 million dollars.

The stadium itself is an amazing design and has changed the way stadiums will be built in the future, providing the cash is available. One of the nagging problems with most arenas are the columns that keep the stadium up. This stadium is supported by two massive arches giving the fans unhindered views of the field and display screens from any seat. These arches provide support for the retractable roof and the strength to support the heavy display screen. It is a high tech wonder with real time concession sales reporting, excellent cell phone reception, and lots of fiber optic cables to support future gadgets not yet invented.

The Dallas Stadium is the most expensive stadium ever built. While it was designed with many elaborate luxury boxes, the underlying objective of the project was to provide the average fan with the best a stadium can offer. Thousands of people have been able to provide for their families while drawing a paycheck to help create this stadium.
